Off to Brisbane!

May 02-03, 2016

Finally, 5 weeks of night ward call are over for the both of us! On to 5 weeks of holiday! Including getting married! Can you imagine how excited we were to embark on this adventure?!

BRISBANE MAY 2016

Thank you Yoni for picking us up when we landed in Brisbane, obviously so good to see you again! 😀

BRISBANE MAY 2016

We were so excited to enjoy a delicious Japanese lunch at our collective favourite – Wagaya – in Chinatown. Unfortunately, it was closed! Not sure why, but perhaps it was a holiday (May Day)?

BRISBANE MAY 2016

Instead, we had lunch at Thai Wi-Rat, with very cheap options off their lunch menu!

BRISBANE MAY 2016

Both Yoni and I got rice with roasted pork (approx $10). Rather than succulent pork with crispy skin, Thai Wi-Rat appears to further fry/bake their pork after chopping – which made it quite tough and dry 😦 I have also never liked the bland cooked vegetables that often accompany such meals – I would much prefer a dressed salad or a bit of stirfry, but I suppose it’s standard! My Thai iced tea was good though!

Mike quite enjoyed his rice with roasted duck 🙂

We then checked into our serviced apartment at the Meriton on Herschel Street. Beautiful view and a good value for the space – which is also perfect for entertaining some friends!

I asked the Meriton to leave a note from me to Michael in our hotel prior to checking in. It wasn’t a problem and a welcomed surprise for him!

Cheers to our holiday!!

BRISBANE MAY 2016

Night view was just as nice!

BRISBANE MAY 2016

In the evening, we caught up with one of our favourite gals – Fiona! Had some delicious Korean food including crispy chicken wings and bulgogi at another favourite – Maru!

BRISBANE MAY 2016

So good to see this one!

BRISBANE MAY 2016

Yoni dropped by after his evening shift to hang out with us some more – and he drove us to their airport the following morning, you’re the best!

BRISBANE MAY 2016

Gloomy morning before checking out!

BRISBANE MAY 2016

No problems with checking in for our flight and soon we were on our way to North America! First, Brisbane to Los Angeles with Qantas. Then, Los Angeles to Toronto to Ottawa with Air Canada!

I’ve always liked the better quality of food with Qantas airline!

SIN/KL 2014: On a plane to Singapore!

November 29, 2014

See these excited faces? Off to Singapore!

An uneventful flight with Scoot, followed by a short day in Singapore. Getting to Moon Hotel (stopping at Tekka Market in Little India for food on the way), resting and having a late but delicious dim sum dinner at Swee Choon!

My mom finally had a taste of Swee Choon’s amazing Salted Egg Yolk Custard Buns that we’ve been raving about. Other favourites definitely included the Portugese Egg Tarts and Red Bean Paste Pancake.

Now I’m really craving dim sum…

Photo #366: THE END

February 28, 2013

Thank you to everyone who has taken an interest in my Photo-A-Day project which began on February 29, 2012 and finishes today. I’m so glad to have taken this opportunity to document a moment a day for the last year 🙂

There were moments of creativity and inspiration and there were also moments of desperation and laziness. There were days when I forgot to take pictures, other days where someone took the picture for me, and even some days where I lost pictures. My first Photo-A-Day project and I certainly hope it won’t be my last!

I leave you with my last picture. My favourite photo that I took in the last year – orchids at The Singapore Botanic Gardens – Photo #96. A mosaic composed of all 366 photos I took this past year! I hope you like it 🙂

Photo #365: Lovelies of 2D

February 27, 2013

The end of my Medicine in Society rotation is drawing near and I find myself back in the Fractured NOF Service to complete my project in creating a medical info brochure for the ward. Took a few staff pictures to include in the brochure, silly faces!

Photo #364: Swarm of Flies

February 26, 2013

Came home today to see a swarm of flies on one side of the driveway. Immediately thought, “Oh no, something died.” Sure enough, this poor skink 😦 I’ve only ever seen them twice in nature, once in my backyard 2 years ago and this one.

Photo #363: Filters

February 25, 2013

I didn’t take a photo today 😦 So here’s my first attempt playing with photo apps on my iPhone. I know many people hate the “Instagram look” but I think filters can make pictures look good – don’t you?

Photo #362: Salty and Sweet

February 24, 2013

We’ve decided that from now on, weekends will be cooking days – which will hopefully save us some time and trouble during the busy weekdays. Made a whole bunch of dishes today including baguette crisps. To top: roasted green grapes with walnuts, salt, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Yummy treat!

Photo #361: Didn’t Die – Win!

February 23, 2013

Growing up, I discovered I had an allergy to many fruits and over the years have learned which ones to stay away from. Unfortunately, I especially love the fruits I’m most allergic to. After over 10 years of not tasting fresh, ripe, juicy peaches, I decided enough was enough. Had one today and only had a mild reaction – woo hoo!

Photo #333: Real Breakfast

January 26, 2013

After an intense week of early hours at the hospital, we finally have time to sit down and have a REALLY good breakfast. Open faced sandwiches on grilled ciabatta bread with turkey breast, garlic sauce, tomato, cucumber and Swiss cheese, and a side of salad with balsamic vinaigrette. Yummy!

Photo #327: Big Day Out of Garbage

January 20, 2013

Mike and I went to Big Day Out today! There will be a separate post about that later, but the amount of garbage lying around is unbelievable! Amazing that so many people can’t just take a few steps to one of the many garbage bins to throw out their trash.

Photo #326: Guilty or Not?

January 19, 2013

It was late and I was the only one awake. It had been 30+ degrees all day and suddenly a craving for cookies&cream ice cream came over me. So… I had some, yum! Do I feel guilty? Nope! Trick: Use a small ice cream scoop (1 tbsp) – looks like a lot but 4 tbsp is only 1/4 cup! 😀

Photo #319: I’ve Joined the Dark Side

January 12, 2013

I’ve been keeping an eye out for a comfortable pair of shoes for the hospital. A few pairs pairs at stores like Naturalizer and Armstrong & Richardson were pretty comfortable but not very stylish and quite expensive. Dropped into Crocs today without any expectations and voila! Found a lovely, extremely comfy pair for a great price 🙂 Although I am ashamed to say I now own a pair of Crocs… at least they’re not the hole-y sandal Crocs??
